Abstract

ABSTRACT

The escalating ecological crisis poses a severe threat to human existence, demanding an urgent response from the educational sector, particularly Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study is highly crucial as it explores rich theological resources to foster environmental awareness by examining Muhammad Mutawalli Asy-Sya'rawi's interpretation of QS Al-A'raf: 56 and QS Ar-Rum: 41 in the book Khawātirul Imām. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study utilized document review as the primary data collection technique, gathering primary textual data from Khawātirul Imām alongside secondary data from relevant academic books, journals, and articles. The researcher acted as the primary research instrument, carefully curating and interpreting the literature, which was subsequently examined using the Content Analysis model as the definitive data analysis technique. The findings reveal that Asy-Sya'rawi's interpretation encompasses five fundamental ecological values: the ecological caliphate, ecological tauhid (the oneness of God), amanah (trustworthiness), mīzān (balance), and ecological worship. The discussion highlights that these values strongly align with core PAI objectives, such as cultivating noble morals, developing ideal caliphs, enhancing spiritual intelligence, and advancing education grounded in maqāid al-syarī'ah. Furthermore, the study formulates a comprehensive design for integrating these values into PAI through three dimensions: the philosophical dimension via an Islamic ecopedagogy paradigm, the structural dimension through ecological curriculum development, and the operational dimension utilizing natural tadabbur methods, environment-based project learning, and ecological habituation. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that Islamic education possesses profound theological foundations capable of producing a generation that is not only ritually pious but also ecologically conscientious.
