Maqashid al-Shariah is a significant discipline in Islamic legal studies that serves as the foundation for understanding the objectives of Shariah. This article examines the nature, urgency, and benefits of studying Maqashid al-Shariah in the context of Islamic legal development. By referencing the thoughts of Ibn ‘Abdissalām and Abdul Wahhab al-Jundi, this paper asserts that understanding maqashid not only provides direction in legal derivation (istinbath al-hukm) but also serves as a means to address contemporary challenges. Maqashid al-Shariah is also a discipline within Islamic legal studies that focuses on the universal objectives of Islamic Shariah. This study is not only theoretical but also holds substantial practical implications for understanding, interpreting, and applying Islamic law in a contextual and just manner. The purpose of this article is to examine the nature, urgency, and benefits of studying Maqashid al-Shariah, drawing on two primary sources: Tafsir al-‘Iz Ibn ‘Abdissalam by ‘Izzuddin Ibn ‘Abdissalam and Ahammiyatu al-Maqashid fi al-Shari‘ati al-Islamiyyah wa Atharuhā fi Fahm al-Nash wa Istinbath al-Hukm by Abdul Wahhab al-Jundi. The findings indicate that maqashid al-shariah functions as an ethical and philosophical compass in contemporary ijtihad, as well as a bridge between revelatory texts and social realities.
