Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Augmented Reality media on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students in science learning on the topic of Earth's layers. The study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental approach using a pretest-posttest control group design. The research context was fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Salebu 05. The dataset consisted of 40 students, with 20 students assigned to the experimental group and 20 students to the control group. The experimental group received AR-assisted science learning, while the control group received conventional learning. The results showed that the mean pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group were 51.05 and 81.15, respectively, whereas those of the control group were 49.60 and 63.95. The normalized gain was 0.62 for the experimental group and 0.29 for the control group. Shapiro-Wilk testing indicated normal distributions, while Levene's test indicated homogeneous variances. The independent samples t-test showed a significant difference in posttest scores between the groups, t(38) = 13.28, p < .001. These results indicate that AR has potential to support the development of elementary students' critical thinking in science learning
